The Reform UK leader Accuses Teachers of ‘Indoctrinating Children’ on Race Issues

Nigel Farage has asserted that teachers would go on strike within weeks a Reform UK election victory, accusing them of “harming young minds” by instructing children that African-Caribbean youth are oppressed and white children oppressors.

At a gathering for a private US Christian college, Farage outlined his viewpoint on British schools, stating that the “Marxist left” had “now in control of our education system”.

“I expect a teachers’ strike soon after securing a victory,” he remarked during a Q&A session.

“They are poisoning our kids. They are telling them to feel guilt about their nation. They inform an eight-year-old black child that he is oppressed and a white child of the same age that he is a perpetrator. They are dividing us, not uniting us. They are feeding this negative culture.”

In response to Farage’s claims, Daniel Kebede dismissed the notion that the education system was controlled by Marxists as “nonsense”. Kebede noted that industrial action must relate to educators’ working conditions, and doubted whether the party would target these immediately upon entering government.

“The politician has crafted his public life on dog-whistle politics and now, similar to other figures, he is targeting educators and their organizations for a fight,” Kebede stated.

“This is highly reckless. I don’t – and nor does my union – push critical race theory as he claims … Should he become prime minister he would sell out our public services, including education … and he would be a disaster for education and children.”

The party, which tops surveys by about 10 points, has provided limited specifics on a proposed education policy and does not appear to have appointed an education spokesperson.

However, Farage’s remarks suggested the group would reform the system and the curriculum. He said: “We face an enormous task with schooling – truly monumental. And, it won’t happen quickly; it will take us years, a long-term effort to reform.”

Farage expressed that gen Z was more open to critical thinking, but millennials were “absolutely hopeless”.

Honoring a conservative activist, Farage said: “All I want education to do to foster independent thought – to educate individuals that there are two points of view and you make up your own mind rather than what’s happening now where one is virtuous and one is evil. It’s a massive job in the UK and US.”

Reform has previously clashed with a major educators’ organization, after Kebede called the party “extremist and prejudiced” and dismissed Farage as “a cheap imitation”.

The politician has charged the union head with being “an avowed radical” … someone who is absolutely determined that our children should be poisoned through education, their minds should be poisoned regarding national issues” and has argued that the organization seeks to brainwash youth opposed to his party.

Roughly a million individuals are employed in education in the UK, about half of whom are teachers and the others teaching assistants and support staff. The leading teachers’ organization has hundreds of thousands of members.

Countrywide walkouts over educators’ salaries and work environment in 2023 led to significant interruptions in schools and extensive missed instruction for children.

During the American gathering, Farage also vowed to promote the digital courses of the institution in the UK. He said organizations like it were “key to resistance”, adding that: “I am serious. I will help attract vast numbers of young people to these educational programs. I make that commitment tonight and I’ll do that.”

The institution, a small private Christian college, provides complimentary classes. Its website states: “Comprehensive learning is vital for well-being and to perpetuate the blessings of civil and religious liberty. It offers these excellent programs for no charge to all who wish to learn.”
