The Princess of Wales's Yearly Yuletide Carol Concert Pays Tribute to Community Volunteers
Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her customary Christmas carol concert at Westminster Abbey, with guests including members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have helped their communities.
The sizable congregation will listen to a selection of carols, music and readings from actors such as Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Centred Around Kindness and Compassion
The theme of the concert, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on the afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.
Among the guests will be Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose child passed away from a brain cancer, and who set up a charity, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a child with a terminal illness.
"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often discreetly and without words, and without any expectation or recognition, make an remarkable change to the lives of others," wrote Catherine in a note prior to the carol service.
A Steady Comeback
The Princess of Wales is continuing her own steady comeback to public life after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, last month delivering her major oration since 2023, in which she talked about recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".
Music and Opportunity
Guests arriving at the Abbey will be entertained by young musicians supported by the Future Talent organisation, set up with the help of the former royal to increase availability of music lessons.
Carys Wood, aged 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been helped by the trust, with awards contributing to equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "incredible" to be taking part in the concert.
"Pursuing music is often costly," Carys said. She is now studying at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to cultivate their performance abilities.
A Family Affair
Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who plays the euphonium, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.
Within the audience will be representatives of different generations.
That will feature young Saphia Turner, nine, honouree of a young hero award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to raise money for community pantries.
Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment
The Abbey has been adorned with specially made wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett contributing to their design.
The musical lineup includes singer Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a Cornish sea shanty group, Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "a dream come true."
The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be aired by ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
