The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years since the first Toy Story film debuted, launching Pixar as a major film company and introducing viewers to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang
In the teaser reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a brand new toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is what Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the insignia pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
