Slot Provides No Excuses and Vows to Find Way Out of Slump
Liverpool's head coach stated he needed to “examine my own performance” following the Reds endured a 6th loss in seven Premier League games on their own turf to Forest and insisted he would find a way out of the champions’ slump.
Forest, in the relegation zone prior to the match, delivered the biggest win at Liverpool's stadium in their club records as the Merseyside club fell to an 8th loss in eleven fixtures in every tournament. The most expensive domestic acquisition, the Swedish striker, was once more unnoticeable and the home side argued Murillo’s opener ought to have been ruled out for comparable grounds to the captain's disallowed effort against Manchester City prior to the national team pause. But Slot conceded the responsibility stopped with him and made no excuses.
“No one wishes to listen to me now speaking about officiating calls if you lose 3-0 in your own stadium to Forest,” said the Liverpool head coach. “I ought to look at my own role first and my team, but it demonstrates you how a goal can change the flow of a match. Earlier I was just waiting for us to score a goal. Afterwards we barely generated anything.
“Naturally there is a way out, particularly with the quality players we have. No matter if you triumph or are beaten when you reflect you are always considering: ‘Where can we do better, where can we make changes?’ but that is different from doubting yourself.
“I wish to emphasise I am accountable for the current defeats. You are responsible when you are winning but also liable when you are losing. I can not come up with enough reasons for us to have the results we have. That is not good enough and I am to blame for that.”
The team's performance fell apart as Slot introduced multiple offensive changes when chasing the match. “It was the same on the road at Nottingham Forest the previous campaign,” he remarked. “I substituted Ibou [Ibrahima Konaté] out and brought on the Portuguese forward and he scored straight away to make it 1-1. At that time it was brave, currently it’s probably unwise.”
The Anfield side last lost back-to-back at Anfield Premier League games by Forest in the sixties. The most recent occasion they lost consecutive league games by a three-goal scoreline was in 1965.
The manager commented: “It was very bad. Playing at home, conceding 3-0 regardless of which team you encounter is a very, very bad result. Surprising if you look at the opening 30 minutes of the game. I haven’t seen us creating so many chances in the initial half-hour perhaps the whole campaign, and the first time they arrived in our box they scored.
“It did not happen at City, but in all other game we have been the controlling side and were able to generate opportunities. Recently it is almost constantly that we miss our chances and the attempts we concede go in.”
