The Gunners' boss feels assured that his side can continue to cope with player absences following revealing that forward Kai Havertz remains out for a few more weeks.

Extended Absence for German Star

Havertz has been sidelined since August due to knee surgery. Hoped to be available sooner, the manager stated the player encountered a problem when increasing his rehabilitation and failed to reach “the next phase.”

“We took lessons, and managed to assemble a squad that is far more dependable and has increased versatility,” stated the manager.

Selection Dilemma for Brentford Clash

This development leaves a selection headache for Wednesday’s home game against Brentford. The manager needs to decide between sticking with Mikel Merino, who found the net in an unfamiliar forward role on Sunday, or reinstating Viktor Gyökeres, who featured briefly after a fitness issue off the bench. Veteran striker Gabriel Jesus is an option post-recovery.

Defensive Concerns Persist

Further fitness issues involve centre-back William Saliba and attacker Leandro Trossard, who were absent for the weekend encounter. Consequently, new recruits Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are expected to continue in central defence for the Premier League front-runners.

The manager is convinced the significant outlay on squad depth during the summer has placed the club in a more robust situation to navigate such absences.

Greater Options Key to Premier League Pursuit

Questioned if increased squad depth was benefiting their league challenge, the manager agreed. “Indeed, since the current term has been worse in certain positions, and now what’s happening with the defence,” he continued.

“History has shown us that we need to utilize players in alternative spots, and they have to be able to adapt to new tasks if we want to compete at the top. And the example of Mikel is just the best one.”

Speaking about the complication noted by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, the manager gave additional context. “He was doing everything. He was unable to progress to the subsequent stage and now the signs are like we have solved that issue.”

The manager conveyed his keenness to see him return. “Everyone is eager to have him. Truly, it’s a player that, in my view, I admire greatly for what he brings to the team, but his personality, his attitude. I watch him struggle on the sidelines.”
