Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched operations throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a "massive" and ongoing offensive against it by the United States and Israeli forces.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area close to the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any damage is uncertain and the American officials has yet to issue a statement.

Airspace Engagements

In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - which all house US military bases - said they have shot down missiles in their territorial skies.

In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had intercepted a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated it was attacking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the attack on Iran initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.

That initial attack - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck sites associated with the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the Iranian people to rise up against the leadership.

Additional Developments

In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israeli military reported it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses engaged the projectiles with notable success and shot down a series of missiles," the statement continued.

Officials reported wreckage landed in a populated district in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some structural damage and fatalities.

The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
