Franchise leads Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will return for the upcoming Hunger Games series film, Sunrise on the Reaping.
It has been confirmed that fan-favorite stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the latest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The project is now in the works.
A Significant Return to Panem
The actors are slated to play Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, respectively. It is believed their appearance will likely occur in a future-set scene, given that the original saga concluded with their characters settled into family life.
This marks the sixth installment in the blockbuster Hunger Games franchise.
The Source Material
Sunrise on the Reaping is based upon a 2025 novel by series creator Suzanne Collins. It serves as the follow-up prequel after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. For this project is Francis Lawrence, who was behind nearly all the previous films in the series.
The Storyline and Fresh Faces
The film's events are set in the years leading up to the first Hunger Games, focusing on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, destined to become Katniss's mentor, is featured as a tribute in the brutal 50th Hunger Games.
The cast also includes several notable actors in important characters:
- Jesse Plemons will portray Plutarch Heavensbee.
- Ralph Fiennes takes on the part of a younger version of the menacing President Snow.

In other news, Jennifer Lawrence has been nominated for a Golden Globe for the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson is part of the hit horror film Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
