A Ton of Anime Updates Dropped Over the Holidays
The Yuletide season provide a multitude of pastimes considerably more enjoyable than scanning the updates: discovering surprises, indulging in festive fare, and employing deep breathing to avoid snapping at relatives. Hopefully you succeeded in accomplish all these things and more. However, the entertainment world never sleeps, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Many exciting news items surfaced over the holidays, and just in case you missed some of them, here is a compilation of the most exciting bits.
One-Punch Man Season 3 Is Moving Forward (By 2027)
Truly the most surprising revelation, the much-discussed controversial season that was season 3 of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to stop further production. Season 3 will return with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—so far away they might as well have dubbed it season 4. More surprisingly, the studio J.C. Staff will still be at the helm. At least this time, director Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the start, which might be a hopeful indicator. However, the main art for the continuation is identical to the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This makes me think that, at this point, they must be mocking the fans.
Ruri Dragon Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has forged a reputation for being an prestigious animation studio, making its mark not just for the superb artistry of its work but for the good working conditions of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had never worked on an anime adapted from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, perhaps the most famous magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved massive popularity when it launched in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a extended pause due to the creator's health issues. When it returned with a reduced workload, the series demonstrated it maintained the fans' support and positive sentiment, and now fans are ecstatic about the impending KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Is Getting a Follow-Up Currently in Production
Kingdom is the best-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only just received an English translation, but the anime has been airing for a while, and season 6 was another stellar entry. Apparently that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been announced as in production, and it will probably debut in 2026.
Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
Another studio known for the superior craftsmanship of its work, Science Saru has given us critically acclaimed works of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the real historical figure of Fatima, an influential woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and captivating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my watchlist.
